2015 Santa Ynez Valley Grenache
his Grenache was sourced entirely from Tierra Alta Vineyard located on the northeastern end of Ballard Canyon, prized for its steep hillsides and limestone soils. This Grenache is a blend of all three French clones grown here. Clones 513, 362 and Tablas clone. The wine was aged for 22 months in neutral French oak.
Tasting notes: Aromas are a red fruit medley-Strawberry raspberry red apple. There’s good concentration but not over-the-top structure leads into baking spices medium tannin medium to medium plus acidity. Beautiful youthful red color. There’s an earthy tone of dry leather into porcini mushroom. There is a terrific energetic vibe that carries this wines character. There is plenty of fresh picked red raspberry, currant and cherry with a touch of cola, but w/o loosing a long pleasing dry earthy finish within palate.Prized for its steep limestone laden hillsides and sourced from the oldest block of Grenache comes the vineyard designate Tierra Alta Vineyard. Only the uppermost section at an elevation of 1400 feet is used in making this amazing wine. I used 30% stem inclusion to bring out the true essence of the vineyard. Aged for 22 months in 300 liter seasoned French oak. Excellent food friendly go to red for many occasions.
