The harvest of 2007 proved to be a very long one that has yielded the best fruit I have seen in my 9 year career.

The vines proved to be quite drought stressed from the lack of winter rain keeping crop yields very low, producing intensely flavored fruit with incredible concentration.

The Kaena label grew this year as I was able to acquire some great fruit from some great sources. The vintage started in late September with Camp Four Syrah Noir coming in first from the famed block #4 section of which I plan on blending with some Tierra Alta fruit to bring back a varietal Syrah for the 2007 vintage.

grenache blanc

Rousanne and Grenache Blanc followed in early October from Camp Four with great flavors and aromas. I plan on blending the two and making small amount of varietal wines from both. It proved to be a waiting game for Grenache with Tierra Alta Vineyard Grenache and Syrah ripening at the end of October simultaneously. This allowed for me to do some co-fermentation with Syrah and Grenache to create the Hapa for 2007 of which I believe should turn out phenomenal.

Larner vineyard

Last but certainly not least to come in was Larner Vineyard Grenache of which I was able to acquire and additional ton from this amazing vineyard. All in all it was the best harvest I have seen to date and should prove to be the vintage of the decade.
