2019 Reserve Malbec

Stag Canyon Vineyard

This Malbec originates from the stony soils of Santa Ynez's Los Olivos District, matured in French Oak to capture the essence of fine Argentinian counterparts, with a limited production of 150 cases. Its character is deep and smoky, with a decant revealing notes of tobacco, dark plum, and chocolate. The palate offers a rich blend of plum and cherry flavors, complemented by coffee and chocolate, all balanced with silky tannins and vibrant acidity. It will pair beautifully with traditional holiday dishes like honey-glazed ham, spiced roast duck, or a vegetarian nut roast, making it an exquisite addition to your holiday table.

Our Malbec hails from the eastern fringes of Santa Ynez, within the Los Olivos District AVA, known for its exceptionally stony soil and dense vine planting — ideal conditions for cultivating premium Bordeaux varieties. It has been matured for three years in mostly seasoned French Oak barrels, with a small fraction of new wood to add complexity. This wine is a homage to the Malbecs I admire from Argentina, and we've carefully crafted 150 cases.

Upon tasting, you'll be greeted with a deep, smoky essence. Let the wine breathe after opening, and you'll discover a bouquet filled with notes of tobacco, the outer layer of dark plums, and dark chocolate. On the palate, indulge in the rich flavors of dark plums, concentrated cherry syrup, roasted coffee beans, and dark chocolate. The wine's smooth tannins and lively acidity create a harmonious match for robust flavors.
